We'll be back here for the left turn
I'm not familiar with the area yet.
Nice flat freeway of a road!
Part of McRae Meadows
Up and over the ridge
Next stop, the creek crossing
Our quarry, Mt. Fillmore, is in view
Back out of Plumas County
Nice scenery along the way
More unknown (to me) peaks
Mount Fillmore, elev. 7715
Like driving through Yosemite!
The rocks are up close and personal here. (In the Tahoe, it seems like roads are kept far from anything interesting)
Looks like a lava intrusion
Appears to be a lava dike, overlaying an ash layer
OMG, an actual OHV trail!
And it actually looks fun!
Sawmill Ridge in the near distance and Gibsonville Ridge beyond
Black Diamond Ridge is in the near distance
Looking down a vertical shaft
Trail to the mine adit
Not exactly OSHA compliant
Wonder where this came from?
6700 feet up, it probably floated up from some campground somewhere.
Mt. Etna's peak
Eric is up on the peak, working the radio on SOTA
Looking up to Mt Etna's peak
Shoulder of Mt Etna
Builds are starting
Hard to see, but this thing was a rolling boulder, it's not an outcropping.
Formations on the side of Mt. Fillmore
Fascinating formations on Mt Fillmore
The volcanics in the Sierra are amazing
TIme to sit down and wait
Eric's on the way down, I'll just pull up a tree and relax.
Not a bad spot to relax
Eric got down from the peak (couple of miles and 1,000 feet of vertical gain) and found me relaxing.
Looking over to Mt Etna
